So far I have read the biographical novel, Into the Wild, written by Jon Krakauer. I have not gotten very deep into the book, but I need to start these blogs. Onto the book, according to what I have read, I do not feel a lot for Christopher Johnson McCandless. From my perspective, he was foolish and immature. While, I look down upon McCandless, I get the feeling that Krakauer rather admires him. I see this admiration conveyed in the “Author’s Note.” Krakauer was a journalist at the time this mystery took place, and was asked by his editor to produce an article on the mysterious death of McCandless. Journalism is a fast paced business, where you get the facts and you get it to the public; therefore Krakauer was forced to get this article out there in a jiff! Krakauer was not satisfied with just leaving this mystery at the face facts, so he went on the same journey McCandless had traveled and got a personal feeling for what really happened to young McCandless. I think that this expedition adds to Krakauer’s credibility as an author, but I still do not understand why McCandless seemed to just take a mighty grip on Krakauer’s mind. As I said before, McCandless seems to be a mindless and foolish person, who is given much honor by this well written biography.
