Post 8

Again I find McCandless to be hypocritical. He hates violence, yet he considers smuggling guns into South Africa to kill whoever rivals against his ideals. McCandless apparently had a gift for selling anything, from home-grown vegetables to copies, and he had quite a bit of money in his savings account, but he hates money and any form of wealth. I do not understand how anyone could go against their own beliefs so easily. I can sympathize with Billie’s father, Loren Johnson, with the way he hated to kill animals yet he killed animals for food to feed his family. Johnson had to feed his family, and if you can help it, you are not going to stand by and watch your family suffer. But McCandless could help it, he could help it if he wanted to find a more peaceful way to help out the oppressed people of South Africa, and he could most definitely have helped it if he did not want to be wealthy. I also do not understand McCandless’s hate for his parents. They sound like very nice people, and normal parents. Of course parents are going to tell you what to do, that is their job. It is inevitable that children are going to get frustrated, and sometimes angry, at parents that seem to never get off your back. I suppose that McCandless just got stuck on all of the low moments he had with his parents, and could not forgive them. Getting stuck on the low moments can ruin relationships. I suppose that is what happened between McCandless and his parents.
